Foods
Looking
for a quick fix and what foods to avoid to solve Diverticulitis?
Unfortunately it isn't that simple. The solution can be a
little complex and usually involves more complete lifestyle changes
than simple avoiding a specific food. That is why we
developed our End Diverticulitis Kit,
to help you understand the changes, methods and other things
that you can do to help relieve the problem.
HOWEVER!
There are certain foods that seem to cause more trouble than others.
In order to try and narrow down a list of foods that should be avoided
and left well alone, we embarked on a survey of our
newsletter readers. The readers of our newsletter are people
that are suffering from this nasty disease as well, and we thought that
these people were most qualified to offer advice about what to avoid.
So what was
the outcome?
Well there are a few standout favorites that you should avoid in order
to help get things under control. But every item on our list
had people that had trouble with it as well as people that had no
trouble with it.
What does this
mean?
It means that the foods that cause you specific trouble may be personal
to just you. So even if someone says you cannot eat that,
you may be able to. And vice versa, if
someone says you can eat it, it may cause you trouble.
There were a stand out few that most people said caused trouble.
TOP
5 that caused trouble. (the complete survey list
is in the End Diverticulitis
Kit ).
- Stress, not a food I know,
but it was a standout winner to cause problems.
Avoid Stress
- Nuts, not quite so clear cut.
but more than 50% of people said nuts caused problems.
I know that new thinking says nuts shouldn't matter.
However these are results directly from sufferers.
- Sesame Seeds, so avoid buns with
sesame seeds on them
- Corn, (and corn products)
this also rated very highly, avoid corn and corn products.
- Chilli's Peppers, generally spicy
foods, peppers and chilli's also rated very highly.
As mentioned previously this is not a given the foods
above will cause you trouble, it is direct results from our
survey of our newsletter readers. So use it as advice in
managing Diverticulitis.
The
TOP 5 that did not cause trouble were,
- Chicken
- Skinless Potatoes
- Carrots
- Fish
- Bananas
Again, the above nay not agree with you, however the foods
listed above were rated the "safest" by our newsletter readers.
In order to completely manage Diverticulitis and Diverticulosis you
will need to manage your whole diet and learn the three main diets and
when to use them.
- High fiber
- Low fiber
- No fiber
We talk about that a lot more in other sections, check out
the Cure and Control link above.
You also should consider things like, movement, exercise,
water intake, supplements etc. There are a lot of
things that can help, but the main one is understanding fiber
in your diet, how much to have and when to have it.
