Dietary Fibre ,additions

Postby crazykatt » Sun Dec 16, 2007 9:23 pm

:D Hi I tried to add fibre to my diet. I put some Psyllium Husk in my breakfast cereal. Well that was yesterday and my stomach is still bloated. I only added a level teaspoonful. Supposed to be gluten free, sugar free and have no additives. I am also diabetic. On a diet called Xandu form the Pharmacy here in Australia.
Was wondering if anyone has ever tried adding fibre to their diet in this way and had it do same thing. Thanks

Fibre only ever causes me problems. Bloating and pain.
I have done some research, and found that there is no proof anywhere that fibre is of any value to us. I know that some div sufferers say that fibre helps them, and all I can say is more power to them. But it sure doesn't help me, so I eat a really low fibre diet, and am much better off for it. Fibre

Postby crazykatt » Mon Dec 31, 2007 10:05 pm

:D Thanks Sally, as I find out more about this disease , I can better cope with the problems that arise. I have stopped taking that extra fibre and I feel much better. Some times I am able to have the things that can cause a very painful flareup, sometimes just a mouthful and the pain begins. Since I also have high blood pressure and am on medication for it, I started taking cayenne pepper in the morning with a little yogurt. About an eighth of a tespoonful, so far it has not caused me any problems. Actually its helped me with all my other problems. Being that it is a natural herb I guess is why it works. My blood pressure was at stroke level for awhile now its normal. I have trouble with breads especially white bread it can bring on a full two days of bloating. Thanks again for your reply. :D

pysilliam isn't good because it retains water in your body...use fibre sure in your water and add flax seed and berries to your yogurt for fibre..it has worked great for me...also bran budds are good with yogurt and are found in the cereal isle.

Thanks for the info I will try fibre sure I have heard flax seed is good is it an oil? I do have the berries and eat a bran type cereal. Thanks again I thought thats why the physillum husk bloated me. Has anyone tried or is drinking Goji juice? There are lots of versions of it on the market. Here in Oz they sell it in grocery store. The berries taste foul.

in some grocery stores I see flax seed sold in bulk(extra foods) and in sobeys it is sold in the cereal isle by the granola...you want the actual seed..not flax oil...my dad used to sell goji juice..it was more a multi level marketing thing than the health benefits.

I tried that Goji juice, nice price 50.00 canadian for a week, I go through 2 large containers of benefibre a month, but the new formula doesn't dissolve as well as the old one did (not in water @ least)
I don't know why but my bloating comes and goes, I saw a picture of me in the summer and it looks like I gained 40 lbs.
In fact I weigh the same now as I did 25 years ago, and I was too thin then. It doesn't seem to matter what I eat, I do all my own cooking, and I do eat a high fiber diet, but I eat more fruit than veggies.
Alot of granola, high fiber cereals, whole wheat everything.
I have sleeping pills but don't like to take them.
Got complications that wake me up no matter what.

I have tried Heather's Acacia and that seems to help. Was diagnosed 2/14/09, 24 days of Flagyl and Levaquin which destroyed the flora in my digestive system. Still trying to get back on track and figure out the pain and diet connection. This is a nasty illness.

Hi I have diverticular and was extremely constipated but the last four weeks have been normal just because i changed my diet to Allbran and bannana for breakfast , Baked beans on wholemeal bread as a lunch and chicken or fish along with lots of vegetables. I also eat avocado and grapefruit plus apples with their skins on. which has helped so much. Plus a lot of water throughout the day. The change has been great but havent as yet suffered from Diverticulitis just the pouches I was told
