I avoid colostomy

Postby ferlez007 » Sun Jul 20, 2008 3:03 pm

Hi - I am 45 and just going out from a severe divericulitis crisis - my los abdomen was in heavy pain due to a colon obstruction (a diverticula literally exploded) - after 4 days doctors tried to un-obstruct my colon and finally decided to get me into the surgery room.

Once there - doctors decided not to practice colostomy but cleaning my hole colon and use the body own fat and tissue (epiplon) to cover the damaged area of my colon (no colostomy). I stayed for 2 weeks in the hospital and 2 more weeks at home - no major problems after two months following a low-fiber diet and moderate exercise (20 minutes per day - long walks).

Follow-up note:

I had a visit with my surgeon last Monday and find me wel - he prescribed pro-biotics to rebuild intestinal flora and to keep doing exercise. My visit to the internist is today, I hope to get similar feedback given the fact that I feel some pain while gas goes thru the damaged area (maybe it is time for some anti-biotics).

Take care
