Hello everyone, my name is Wendy and I live in England. I was diagnosed in November 2006 and am finding it difficult to cope with DIV at the moment. I am in my early fifties. I thought I was far too young to have this disease so it is heartening to discover that I am not alone....
I am not certain what causes a flare-up and seem to have been in one for three weeks now - trying low fibre, Movicol and high fibre and now am back to thinking about low fibre again. Perhaps I should take Sherms advice and eat as little as possible and drink lots of water. Any other ideas?
When I asked the gastroenterologist advice he said that was beyond his remit and to consult my GP. My GP said...try different things, go on the internet.....
For such an embarrassing, painful and common disease - there does not seem to be much professional advice out there.....it looks like we have to be our own doctor. Good luck to us all. And I am glad there is this forum.

Hi Wendy...obviously you are not too young to have this.I am 45 years old and was diagnosed in August of 2006 with mine. Isnt it funny we all know the exact dates of our diagnosis like it our own little disese...lol. I am sorry to hear you have no docs over there in Eng. to help you out! That is not the first time I have heard of that happening. Is there a colorectal doctor you could see? This is no disease to mess with and not do anything about! You may need antibiotics if there was a rupture in your colon ,and if its not taken care of can be life threatening. Stay away from seeds, nuts, and drink lots of water and do not get constipated. I hope you well and dont let it go...let me know how you make out.....Adele

Hi Wendy
My name is Angela and I live in England.I was diagnosed this February and I am 54.
My G.P has been no help at all just gave me some information from the internet which I already knew and basically said get on with it and eat lots of bran in your diet which I try to do and I do drink alot of water which I think helps.
I have just found this website which I think will be good to get to know other people who have so of the problems with this.

Regards
Angela
