"Diverticulitis, just eat more fiber"
NO DO NOT JUST EAT MORE FIBER - More fiber when you are in pain can cause MORE pain. Fiber can irritate an infection, it can, in some cases, make it worse. There is a right and wrong time to eat more fiber.

"Take Metamucil daily, that'll help"
YES AND NO Metamucil and other such supplements do add fiber to the diet, which is good at the right time. However, products like Metamucil can be chemically harsh and are sometimes based on WHEAT fiber(which can cause other problems). Long term products like Metamucil are not the best solution. There are much better options, but more on that later.

"Do nothing, now just go home and get better"
WHAT?? doing exactly what you have been doing got you to this point in the first place. It is time to do something different. Just going home and doing the same things will, guess what.... most likely lead to the same problems.

"AntiBiotics will fix you up"
YES they will fight the infection and yes that should help the short term problem, the infection, and the short term pain. However it does nothing to stop any reoccurance, stop the problem happening again, and Antibiotics do have a detrimental effect more on that later.

First a quick story.

Someone very close to me, had VERY serious bowel trouble. (my mum)

The doctors while meaning well, did fix the immediate problem, but didn't help at all with what we need to know about avoiding problems in the future. Fixing the immediate problem is great and don't get me wrong the doctors did a great job and were very professional.

Directions: Mix together oil, vinegar, salt and pepper. Pour over beans and onion in a shallow bowl. Cover and refrigerate at least 1 hour. Transfer bean mixture to serving platter with slotted spoon. Break tuna into chunks and arrange on bean mixture.
