Diverticulitis Diets are a very onfusing part of Diverticulitis.

What do you do?
We have explained the different diets with more detail in the links on the left. High Fiber, Low Fiber and No Fiber. To get greater detail check out the links on the left.
Basically there are three diets you need to know about for Diverticulitis.
- High Fiber
- Low Fiber
- No Fiber
The High Fiber diet is something you should be on when things are good. When you are not in any pain or discomfort. The high fiber diet is the one that keeps you healthy. It is the preventer for Diverticulitis. Stops Diverticulitis from occuring.
The Low Fiber diet is for when you are in discomfort. For when you are feel uncomfortable. The low fiber diet is something you will most likely be on when your taking Anti-Biotics. The low fiber diet helps the body to heal. It is not a preventer of Diverticulitis, but rather a diet that allows teh body time to heal.
The No Fiber Diet is basically a diet that takes all fiber out of your system. This is can be a liquid diet or just a diet VERY low in fiber. The reason people usually go to a no fiber diet, is they feel a flare coming on. When that happens they take every last bit of fiber out of the diet. This gives the body a chance to get straight onto the infection without fiber constantly opening up the infection.
Some people also choose the liquid diet, you need to be careful with the liquid diet as it has very little nutrition. You should really only use a liquid diet for a short period of time. And really should only use it with medical supervision. As I said there is little to no long term nutrition in the liquid diet. It does however give the system a good flush out. This has a two fold effect. 1. to flush the system. 2. To take fiber out and allow the body time to heal.
